What is G-Fest as it is often typed as G-FEST is an annual event that is devoted to the Godzilla film franchise and other Kaiju genre. What is a Kaiju it literally means strange beast and it is also affiliated within the genre of Japanese giant monster movies as well as the franchise such as Ultraman, and Gamera. G-Fest is staged by Daikaiju Enterprises, LTD., As well as G-Fan Magazine.

This particular event for us was held in Rosemont Illinois at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare. The most recent of these conventions is called G-Fest 21 which was last held on July 11 through the 13th in 2014. This is not just your typical convention what it has as many actors and actresses that have started in certain Kaiju fellows as well as special effects directors and technicians from certain films and yes there are other famous people that have worked on such film genres as Godzilla, Ultraman, Gamera, and any other Kaiju film within this sci-fi genre. Usually when I have a guest that is honored and awarded what is called “Mangled Skyscraper Award” for their lasting contribution in the Kaiju genre.

One of the most popular aspects about this convention is what is called the “Dealers Room” this is where they sell action figures, resin kits, or anything that collectors within the genre can purchase. It is a gigantic toy convention in that aspect. Also some other interesting facts about G-Fest is that there are many many fans out there that go out of the way to create some pretty amazing costumes and showing off a show door G-Fest. There is also what is called a model show and competition most fans were driven to create fan films there is a competition for this as well. They can submit their fan-based films to G-Fest and allow them to be viewed by other fans.

Also within G-Fest they have what is called “Filmstival” which is basically a film festival where fans can show off their full-length feature independent films that they have created. Among many other things they do here at G-Fest they tend to get into videogame torments, children’s activities, as well as autograph sessions with famous actors and actresses from certain Kaiju films.

A little history lesson based on G-Fest it was founded by publisher of G-Fan Magazine JD Lees he is a Canadian high school teacher and along with the late John Rocco Roberto these 2 individuals along with other people assisting them in organizing the very 1st G-Fest as well as future G-Fest and they are Jeff Horne, Brett Homenic, Stan Hyde, Dawn McKechnie, Yutaka Ichimura, Paul Gavins, Lenell Bridges, David Nunes, and others. Actor Robert Scott Field regularly attends G-Fest as a celebrity guest and translator.

The very 1st G-Fest like organization was in fact a public meeting of contributors to G-Fan Magazine and it was held at the Howard Johnson hotel at the O’Hare airport in Chicago Illinois. The next G-Fest which at this time was called (G-Con) which was held in 1995 on August 18 through the 20th and the 1st 2 days were closed to the public until news reports spread that it was open to the public on the very last day. It was held at the Radisson Hotel in Arlington Heights Illinois. The next year G-Fest would have the honored guests of Kenpachiro Satsuma and Harou Nakajima that it was held at the Radisson Hotel in Arlington Heights Illinois. G-Fest in 1997 would have guessed such as Don Glut, Marc Cerasini, Bob Eggleton, Stuart Galbraith IV, David Kalat, and Steve Ryfle. And this particular event was held at the Wyndham Hotel in Chicago Illinois.

By 1998 G-Fest would hold guests like William Stout, Mike Fredericks, Yoshikazu Ishii, Gene Rizzardi and this particular event was also held at the Wyndham Hotel in Chicago Illinois. Ackerman, Peter Fernandez, Corrine Orr, Hisataka Kitaoka (now Ryuki Kitaoka), Don Glut. Noriaki Yuasa is the same director and creator of Gamera and at this G-Fest they showed the movie Gamera 3: the revenge of Iris (US premiere), Ultraman Gaia: the battle in Hyperspace (US premiere) these 2 particular members a very unique and very good as the Gamera films surpassed most of the Toho Godzilla films and special effects and storylines. The Heisei Series of Gamera films were absolutely amazing. Ultraman has been around just as long as Gamera and it has its own pop culture following as well. During this particular event the award that they call “Mangled Skyscraper Award” was presented to Forrest J Ackerman. The entire event was held at the Burbank Hilton in Burbank California instead of the traditional Chicago location.
